GEElab Europe at Gamescom 2014

Last month, GEElab Europe attended the annual Gamescon trade fair to check out the latest in digital entertainment and meet with prospective partners. Co-Director Dr Jussi Holopainen and GEElab Project Manager, Peter Klement attended the fair which attracts around 340,000 people and is known to be the largest European digital entertainment event.

Located centrally in Cologne, Germany, Gamescon is one of the most important dates for anyone working with digital games or electronic entertainment. Easily accessible for professionals and games enthusiasts across the globe, the trade fair is attended by games publishers, journalists, universities and digital entertainment companies seeking the latest developments on the market. Exhibitors trying to one-up each other for the games market-share also wow general public attendees.

Jussi Holopainen and Peter Klement attended the newly created conference "Respawn: Gathering of Game Developers", which aims to be a local counterpoint to the much more international "Games Developers Conference" (GDC). There they met several potential partners from Germany for academic exchange as well as future projects. Peter Klement also represented GEElab Europe at the shared booth of the region Baden-Württemberg for the following days and met many interesting people ranging from an Israeli company producing an activity tracking bracelet for kids to representatives of the German Centre for Fairytale Culture.
