Mutually Assured Destruction Reviewed

Alex Muscat and Will Owen's Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) has been reviewed in Nugget - the newsletter for London's Conference of Wargamers.

Mutually Assured Destruction is an experimental role-playing card game of strategy, intrigue and paranoia based on John von Neumann’s Cold War era strategy game of the same name.

Here's a snippet from the article:

"From my perspective, the game ran remarkably smoothly. Most of the players knew one another, which both helped and hindered player trust, although I and at least one other participant were not part of the group. The designers said they expected a high degree of mistrust and were surprised that teams cooperated.

It was very neatly designed to accommodate an unknown number of players. I am not sure if the group size was as expected, but it worked very well for the dozen or so players who turned up. It would easily expand to more players and probably more teams. It would be interesting to see if varying the ratio of spies to loyalists changes the play."
